Carrara District

A new place to experience design, where marble is born

There is a place where design meets raw material, where art takes shape in stone, and where the millennia-old tradition of marble is transformed into contemporary avant-garde.
This is the Carrara District: a new experiential hub in the heart of the world capital of natural stone.

One kilometre of installations, showrooms, galleries, quarries accessible through guided tours, workshops and works of art. A living, ever-evolving district conceived for architects, designers, brands and connoisseurs of beauty who wish to experience the most authentic essence of Made in Italy firsthand.

Over 100 types of marble.
More than 50 artists.
Constant inspiration.

Carrara is not just “white”: it is Calacatta, Cremo, Statuario, Bardiglio, Zebrino, Cipollino. More than 50 marble varieties, each with distinct technical and aesthetic qualities, each with its own identity and design character, sourced from the Franchi quarries. Here, every surface becomes a canvas; every vein, a creative gesture.

The installations and permanent works are signed by internationally renowned names such as Kengo Kuma, Cino Zucchi, Michele De Lucchi, Giulio Cappellini, Luca Dini and many others. The result is an ongoing dialogue between architecture, art and material, turning the district into an open-air museum to be explored and experienced.

A network that generates value.

At Carrara District, everything is designed to create connections: between materials and ideas, culture and business, art and craftsmanship.

Interni now is the beating heart of the project. An exhibition showroom featuring more than 100 Italian and international design brands, alongside a design and planning centre. A place where the dialogue between function and aesthetic language takes form — an operational space conceived for architects, designers and companies.

Franchi Umberto Marmi, a symbol of excellence in the marble industry for over 50 years, is today a publicly listed company and an international reference point for the supply of premium materials for architecture, design and luxury hospitality.

FUM Academy is an international training hub dedicated to marble and design, where professionals and students from around the world meet the masters of the field.

Poltrona Frau is represented by a dedicated space celebrating leather and furniture, complete with an exclusive material library.

Art galleries and workshops reveal marble not as a finished product, but as a process. Visitors can witness the craftsmanship in real time.

Ristorante Extra completes the experience, where taste finds its place in a convivial and contemporary setting.

Every element is connected within an immersive experience, where visitors are protagonists, not spectators.

Where the map becomes an experience

The Carrara District map is not merely a logistical tool; it is an emotional guide through design, art and material. From the Calacatta portals designed by Eugenio Biselli to Michele De Lucchi’s monumental Plissè for Alessi, and the site-specific sculptures by Kuma and Zucchi, each stop becomes a discovery.

Among the spaces not to be missed: the Umberto and Big One galleries, the Slab Workshop, the gallery hosting the Carrara District Collection furniture, and the gallery dedicated to Kengo Kuma. And then the artworks themselves — from Giuseppe Veneziano’s Superman to Luca Dini’s Spheric, and Filippo Tincolini’s Gold Leaf Soul.

Carrara District Design Collection

One of the highlights of this journey is the Carrara District Design Collection, housed within the district’s showroom and celebrating the meeting point between material soul and design vision. The project was born from the collaboration between Interni now and Franchi Umberto Marmi, combining technical expertise and innovation with the finest raw materials.

Here, marble furnishings — lightened through an innovative engineering process — become functional sculptures for residential interiors and luxury yachts. A collection curated down to the smallest detail, where craftsmanship meets contemporary design, set within the beating heart of the district.
