Once upon a time there were two entrepreneurs, Luigi Riboldi and Francesco Malberti, living in Desio. And then they became Rimadesio.
Rimadesio’s exclusive vision is based on technological innovation, stylistic research, and environmental awareness. Practically, this is translated into a proposal for furnishing and functional division of environments, going from modular systems for the living area and bookcases, to sliding doors, doors, walk-in closets, and a diverse collection of stand-alone furnishings and complements.
Rimadesio produces modular systems that act as functional divisions of settings, after studying the most advanced furniture and décor demands. Its portfolio comprises architecturally flexible and elegantly built made-to-measure glass and aluminium doors, closets, and storage systems that add beauty to everyday design. Rimadesio’s trademark interior style is contemporary, utilitarian, and well-balanced, with an emphasis on design simplicity and balance.
The origins of Rimadesio
Francesco Malberti and Luigi Riboldi established Rimadesio in 1956. Originally named Rima Vetraria, it was based in Desio, on Milan’s northern outskirts.
Fun fact: this district in the north of Milan is called Brianza, and in those years it was preparing to become a leader in the extraordinary industrial and economic development that would occur a few years later. Brianza, today, is the common factor that binds many of our luxury furniture companies together.
At first, Rimadesio’s production focused on flat glass panels, working with other furniture makers. A major portion of the manufacturing process was done by hand: engravings, gold-leaf coatings, and coloration were all done one at a time. These working techniques were matched by a lot of energy and a strong drive to create something innovative. During this time, the firm developed its own technological expertise and broadened its material range to include wood and plexiglass.
All of the work on it is done fully in the company’s manufacturing department, which is made possible by technological know-how gathered from over 50 years of expertise in the industry.
Within the wide offer of materials to work with, glass still remains the main component of the Rimadesio series. This allows the brand to maintain a clean and sleek aesthetics, but also a sustainable and environmentally friendly production.
Design icons
Rimadesio creates solutions for separating surroundings and defining interior areas architecturally. Doors, sliding panels, storage units, walk-in wardrobes, and a range of complementing furniture: an ever-expanding and ever-evolving offer. Unlike many other brands, all Rimadesio’s designs have a single designer: Giuseppe Bavuso.
The iconicity of the brand is given by its uniqueness: each series is extremely customizable and integrated with all other products, to the point of being able to transform a catalogue of listed products into bespoke design suggestions.
Modulor, Abacus, Zenit, Cover are just some of the most iconic and versatile systems to choose from. The offer is a constantly growing solution in which the accessories together with smart and attractive materials, such as the unique synthetic leather, provide elegance and adaptability in every situation.
And the selection of freestanding furniture is certainly not far behind. An example is the Manta tables system, a further demonstration of the brand’s research and technological innovation. Die-cast aluminum and the modular concept of the structure, in fact, make it possible to achieve aesthetic originality and exceptional dimensions.
The future of Rimadesio
Rimadesio‘s design philosophy is based on looking at the present in order to predict the future. The goal is to continue to create its own design culture and manufacturing technology, in order to be able to deliver functionally new concepts that are also unique in terms of aesthetics and can be relied on for a long period.
