Cassina is one of the oldest manufacturers of Italian industrial design, having been founded in 1927 by the brothers Cesare and Umberto in the center of Brianza.
Starting from the early 1930s, the Cassina brothers predicted the significant increase in demand for home furnishings and the changes in the tastes of the new emerging classes, triggering a real revolution in the field of interior design.
The activity began with a course focused on research and innovation, enlisting renowned designers and architects in the search for new furniture concepts.
In these years a partnership was born with Gio Ponti, a proponent of classic designs such as the model 646 chair, called Leggera, and the subsequent model 699 seat, known as Superleggera.
