Milan Design Week 2026

Interni’s Perspective: The Evolution of Design and New Living Scenarios

Milan Design Week 2026 reaffirms its role as a prime vantage point for observing the evolution of contemporary design. It is a system where architecture, design, and research interact, giving rise not only to new collections but to genuine experiences.

From the Salone del Mobile at the fairgrounds to the Fuorisalone venues, we observed an increasingly mature design language, capable of uniting aesthetics, function, and cultural content—well represented by installations throughout the city and by collections from brands such as Poliform, Molteni, Edra, and Flexform.

Design as an experience

Exhibitions become immersive environments capable of conveying identity and values. Rather than simply displaying objects, they construct narratives—including traveling ones, such as the Milan tram curated by Baxter.

Presentations by brands such as Poliform and Molteni demonstrate an approach increasingly aligned with the world of hospitality, where design is first and foremost communication. For this reason, historic buildings have been chosen to showcase their indoor and outdoor collections. Immersive, theatrical spaces where one can lose oneself amidst design and history.

Materials and Identity

Among the most noticeable trends is the decisive return of materials. Wood, stone, metal, and fabric are being combined in increasingly sophisticated ways with references to Eastern styles.

Materials become a design language and define the identity of the space, in line with an approach that emphasizes quality, authenticity, and personalization.

A return to reflective and mirrored materials such as chrome in structures and glossy lacquered wood finishes, even in some sofa inserts or coffee tables.

Indoor and outdoor: total continuity

The boundary between indoors and outdoors disappears. The outdoor space becomes a natural extension of the living area, designed with the same attention to detail as the interior—no longer just a trend but a cornerstone of design.

A shift that reflects new lifestyles, increasingly focused on the quality of space and time. The collections by Flexform and Paola Lenti are particularly noteworthy.

The Kitchen as the Heart of the Home

The kitchen remains the star of the show. No longer a utilitarian space, but a central, open, and convivial environment. Design and integrated technology come together to create a fluid space for living and sharing. This fluidity is also reflected in the forms—soft, rounded lines characterized by concave and convex angles in central elements like islands and in columns that blend seamlessly with the wood paneling, as seen in the new model by Molteni and Poliform.

Luxury and Personalization

Luxury is evolving toward a more personal dimension. More and more brands are offering custom and flexible solutions, adopting an approach that is almost tailor-made.

Today, true value lies in uniqueness: bespoke spaces designed to reflect the needs and personality of those who inhabit them, with a focus on sustainability.

Luxury and Personalization

MDW 2026 confirms a clear direction: design is a complex system composed of materials, space, and identity. Amid a return to materials, the integration of spaces, and the centrality of customization, a new way of designing is emerging: more conscious, more personal.

For us at Interni now, this means aligning ourselves ever more closely with our design philosophy, in which we continue to create spaces that unite innovation and uniqueness. An approach focused on research, quality, and vision, which continues to guide our interpretation of contemporary living.

Soon, some of the new products presented will be available in our showrooms to create ever-changing settings and dialogues.
